Anita Wheeler received an Associate of Science, Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in nursing education from Angelo State University. Before becoming an independent school nurse consultant, Mrs. Wheeler worked as the School Health Coordinator and School Nurse Consultant at the Texas Department of State Health Services and held that position for 18 years. As the school health coordinator, she led the school health team in developing legislative rules, guidelines and training for school nurses and school personnel. In addition, she served as a facilitator and member on the Texas School Health Advisory Committee, the Stock Epinephrine Advisory Committee, and other agency sub-committees.
She recently published “An Orientation Guide for Texas School Nurses”.
She is a member of the National Association of School Nurses, the Texas School Nurse Organization, Sigma Theta Tau and the Texas Nurses Association. She has received the President’s Award from the Texas School Nurse Organization and the John P. McGovern Award from the Texas School Health Association for service to school nurses and school health.
